Emergency preparedness drill held for medical staff in Tort-Kul village
On 17 July 2026, a fire safety drill was held for staff of a medical facility in Tort-Kul village, Issyk-Kul Region, Kyrgyz Republic.
The village is part of the Ton-Tosor pilot area of the GLOFCA project. The drill was organized as part of the project’s complementary measures aimed at strengthening the preparedness of local services and communities for emergencies.
A total of 25 staff members took part. They practiced fire notification procedures, the safe evacuation of patients and personnel, the use of basic firefighting equipment, and coordination with the district fire and rescue service.
Under the exercise scenario, a simulated fire and smoke occurred in the building. Staff evacuated patients and personnel along pre-defined routes. The responding fire and rescue team then demonstrated how to contain and fully extinguish the simulated fire.
After the drill, participants reviewed their actions and identified areas for further improvement. The skills gained will help medical staff respond more confidently to fires and other emergencies.
Such practical exercises complement the work of the GLOFCA project to reduce risks and strengthen the preparedness of local communities in its pilot areas.
